Show Set Design for
Themed Entertainment
An Ideal Husband
For this show, I was acting as Assistant Scene Designer. I worked very closely with the Lead Designer to create each scene on a low budget. For all three scenes, the designer gave me a sketch of the overall look of the scene and it was my job to draft the scene on Vectorworks. I was then able to design the stained glass for scenes 2 & 3, as well as the fireplace in scene 3 on my own.
(Show was cancelled due to Covid-19 so the set was never built)
Scene 1
The first scene is where all the characters will be introduced. They will all enter through the stained glass door, which will be the focal point of the scene.

Scene 2
The Morning Room scene is used for both acts 2 and 4. A large portion of the plot of the show revolves around Lord and Lady Chiltern. Throughout the show, it is revealed that Lord Chiltern had a questionable start to his fortune (involving a canal being dug) and isn't as pure as he seems. This is reflected in the stained glass. The nature scene, inspired by art nouveau artist Louis Tiffany. The two trees represent the Chilterns, both similar, but one depicted darker than the other, with a river dividing the two.

Scene 3
The focal point to this scene is the fireplace. A significant moment in the show is when Lord Goring burns a letter containing evidence convicting Lord Chiltern. This art nouveau style fireplace also contains a mirror, as there are moments of self reflection during this scene as well. The vines on the windows are symbolic of when Lady Cheverly is caught in her plot.
