Terra

Luxury Resort Design

This project was a team collaboration project with Ray Zupp (Portfolio Here), Alyssa Philips (Portfolio Here), and Harshitha Uddagiri (Portfolio here). Artwork shown is my own work unless otherwise stated.

The Assignment was to design a resort for Las Vegas over the course of three weeks

Concept

Terra is a luxurious resort designed as an Art Deco style temple to nature. Here, nature and environmentally minded practices are embedded throughout the entire resort. Guests will experience both adventure and tranquility throughout this one of a kind experience.

The main atrium features the Goddess Tree, where Art Deco statues encircling the central tree serve as a breathtaking spectacle, visible from the exterior of the building. This space connects to the theater experience, an artifact museum, the entry way, and the guest rooms. It also acts as a peaceful buffer between the atmosphere of the casino and the guest rooms. The waterfalls pass through below-floor hydrogenators in order to recycle energy used in the pumping system. Other waterfalls throughout the main space contain air conditioning ducts, as a way to naturally cool the air to save on energy use. Throughout the day, robotic butterflies and birds can be seen flying through the space, creating a magical world for guests to experience. On top the tree is The Treehouse, a café and lounge area that offers tastes of new developing sustainable foods and beverages.

Our Earth is an immersive in-the-round theatrical experience telling the story of the Earth as told by people all around the world. This will include storytelling, songs, and dancing from many cultures (for example, Polynesian songs and dance about the ocean). These performances are enhanced by projections on an orb in the center stage, projections on the domed ceilings, and a variety of flying drone-like elements to really immerse guests in the experience. We referenced the company Airstage as a potential vendor for these flying elements.

When finding reference images, we looked to using AI-generated art, as well as image searching, as inspiration for style and color pallet

Modelling

While most of the modelling was done in Sketchup, I needed a more organic shape for the atrium tree. So I taught myself the basics of digital sculpting in Blender and imported that into the render file.

Rendering

I used Lumion to combine my Sketchup and Blender models and render the videos seen above. I also made these still shots that I took into Photoshop to complete the Images seen above
