I was hired by an entrepreneur to create concept work for a new theme park to be built in Arizona. I was given a list of attractions the company wanted and then I developed theming and story for the park. This included designing facades, layout, and environmental elements such as paths and landscaping. My images are being used to convey concepts to the engineers and architects developing the park. As this is early in the development process and I was the sole designer working on the project at the time, I was given a lot of creative freedom, but also a very fast-paced timeline.

I also used this internship as a chance to study and apply what I learn from Theme Park Design by David Younger.

My images are not meant to represent the best of my artistic abilities, but to represent concepts and theming that I developed.

One example of theming that I did was with Cotopaxi. One of the lands I was given to theme had the design concept of "fire and ice." I decided that basing the land off of a volcano in Ecuador named Cotopaxi. This Volcano is home to one of the last remaining equatorial icebergs, a unique environment that is rapidly disappearing. Building facades were designed with architecture styles found in Ecuador, as well as attractions placed in the volcano, which serves as a focal point of the land.

I combined several attractions from the "Ocean in the Desert" land into one building that provided a more immersive experience and rich experience for guests by utilizing a variety of theme park design including interweaving a roller coaster into several sections of the building, multileveling in order to create a more interesting space in the building, and using opposition of big/small spaces to create a more dramatic effect in revealing attractions.
